PeaceBuilders Chalk Art Activity |
We all know that youth learn by working with their hands and as part of a team. Hands-on
activities help young people process information. Team work helps expand their knowledge as
they discuss ideas with others.
Art projects that focus on building peace are a great way to involve young people in the
process: to learn what they know and to see how they feel. Chalk art displays are fun projects
that allow children and teens to express themselves and spread a peaceful message.
To conduct this activity, you can divide youth into groups, tape off some squares on the
concrete or blacktop, give a few simple instructions to keep the art focused on the theme of
peace, and let them get to work! Afterward, you might invite families, community members,
district officials, even the media to see the beautiful displays your young people create.

This piece was created by a group of mixed aged youth. They won a prize
for "Best Use of Space."

This chalk art display takes PeaceBuilding into outer space. After pledging to
build peace at home, at school and in our communities, the universe is a natural progression!

Whether you work with young children or teens, chalk art displays are a great way to get young
people working together, talking about what peace means, and finding ways to give meaning to concepts.
A chalk art exhibition is a great way to decorate your site with PeaceBuilders visual cues. It puts
young people on a team with a positive mission... and it's easy to clean up!
Why not hold your own chalk art display as a recommitment to building peace in the New Year? Send us
your photos and we'll display them along with an article about your site on Check it Out!
Send chalk art or any other Check it Out! submissions to
support@peacebuilders.com. And don't forget to give us a contact name in case we have questions.
