St. Edward School - Louisville, KY |
St. Edward School staff and students are always busy building peace at school and in their homes and community. Recently, as a finale for their music program, students in grades K-8 performed the song "Go the Distance" from the Disney movie Hercules. They dedicated the song, which ends with the lyrics "...till I find my hero's welcome waiting in your arms," to parents and grandparents who have been consistent PeaceBuilders role-models and heroes for their children.
The students at St. Edward have made a promise to build peace one relationship at a time. To demonstrate their promise, eighth graders created six large puzzle pieces - each one illustrating a PeaceBuilders Principle.
During the instrumental portion of the song, eighth grade PeaceBuilders leaders walked slowly around the room holding their puzzle pieces proudly so everyone could read them. |
The eighth grade leaders gathered on stage, with their individual puzzle pieces. |
They put all the pieces together to form a PeaceBuilders puzzle including all six Principles of peace. |
Parents and grandparents received a wonderful message while the last line of the song was being sung and the puzzle pieces were turned over and reassembled. |
The staff at St. Edward strives to inspire students to be lifelong PeaceBuilders. They involve students, particularly older ones, in decision making about how they are going to coach and live PeaceBuilders at their site. Their reward is a strong, peaceful climate. PeaceBuilding is taught every day, during every lesson as the adults model the behaviors and speak the language.
We praise this amazing school that continues to inspire us with their creativity, their enthusiasm, and their generosity.
