New Madrid Elementary School - New Madrid, MO |
What's so special about New Madrid Elementary School? Well, when they decide to do
something they give it their all, and the results are very impressive!
This exceptional site was trained in PeaceBuilders at the beginning of this school year. The
training went very well-the staff was engaged and enthusiastic. When people join our PeaceBuilders
family, we always have high expectations for them, but New Madrid has surpassed our hopes.
From the very first day, the staff at this school has been a driving force behind the PeaceBuilders
program. They have done a fantastic job coaching children to become PeaceBuilders. One very important
way they have done that is to make sure that there are many visual PeaceBuilders signs and displays
around the school to cue children to practice the six principles.

This display, which reminds students and staff where peace begins, is found
directly above the main office as you walk in the building. Individual acts of peace are displayed
below.

The wise people at New Madrid Elementary created this PeaceBuilders box as one
more way to recognize and reward children for their positive behaviors. The box is filled with
PraiseNotes that are used in a lottery type drawing. Names are drawn each week and the children
receive small prizes. Once a month bigger prizes, like PeaceBuilder shirts or games, are handed out
to winners.

Seasonal holidays give staff another opportunity to show their creativity along with their PeaceBuilders spirit.

Young PeaceBuilders at New Madrid enjoy the creativity their teachers show when
creating PeaceBuilders displays. The "Peace Palace" and the PraiseNote tree can be found in two
elementary classrooms.

An important element of implementing PeaceBuilders successfully at any site is making sure that
there are abundant visual cues. These cues remind students and staff about their common purpose and
cue them to act in positive, affirming ways.
We are impressed with the way New Madrid Elementary has begun their PeaceBuilders journey. They
really hit the ground running and we are enjoying watching them as they round the track
finishing their first year with such great success.
