National PeaceBuilder |
|
As our way of honoring PeaceBuilders who go beyond all expectations, PeacePartners, Inc. recognizes several
“National PeaceBuilders” throughout the year. These exceptional people work unselfishly to
build peace in their homes, in their schools and in their communities; and in so doing they make the world a
better place for all of us. Join us in celebrating each and every one of them for their contributions in creating
safer, more peaceful learning environments. |
November 2009 |
PeaceBuilding is a team effort. Adults work together to set a peaceful tone. They model, they encourage,
and they acknowledge the peaceful, positive behavior they see.
A strong team can make an enormous difference in the climate and culture of any setting. But a strong team
needs a dedicated leader. The woman we honor this month was nominated because of her effective, compassionate
leadership skills.

Meet Mrs. Lynette Villagomez, much loved principal at
William S. Reyes Elementary School in Saipan. |
To understand what makes Mrs. Villagomez such an effectual leader, there is no stronger evidence than the
praise of her staff, who admire her for her PeaceBuilders role-modeling. They appreciate that she always finds
time to listen to their concerns, no matter how busy she is and that she offers her help to make sure the staff
has all the information and resources they need. According to one teacher, "She cares for all of us. She is a
dear friend."
Students also appreciate and admire Mrs. Villagomez. This year's Student Council President praises her for
always wearing a smile and for regularly recognizing students for their good acts. And when students fall
short, make a mistake, or simply need a wise person, they know Mrs. Villagomez is always available to assist
them.
Even the parents at WSR Elementary School admire Mrs. Villagomez for her PeaceBuilding efforts and her expertise,
according to the PTSA President.
This PeaceBuilder doesn't just talk about building peace and she doesn't relegate the program to everyone else so
that she can concentrate on other issues. According to the school counselor, Mrs. Villagomez's commitment to
PeaceBuilders is unfailing. She makes a concerted effort through fundraising activities like pizza night and
grant applications to ensure there is always funding for PeaceBuilders activities. And since the school adopted
PeaceBuilders in 2005, she has been one of the strongest advocates, endorsing and facilitating site-wide events
at her school and promoting PeaceBuilders across the beautiful island of Saipan.
When talking about adult modeling of the PeaceBuilders Principals, we can find no stronger example than our
national PeaceBuilder of the Month for November, 2009: Mrs. Lynette Villagomez. She is a continual inspiration.
