St. Edward School - Jeffersontown, KY
As PeaceBuilders adults, we teach children that actions have consequences. Good behavior results in positive consequences and inappropriate behavior will lead to negative consequences. With practice and encouragement, children develop into intrinsic PeaceBuilders. As their behavior improves, desire for rewards often diminishes. Eventually, the good deed and the feelings and pride it elicits are truly their own reward.

Sometimes, however, good deeds are acknowledged and rewarded in a way that is unexpected and for which appreciation really cannot be adequately expressed.

Recently, St. Edward School received a very special, very rare gift in acknowledgement of their constant, ongoing support of troops in Iraq and of the soldiers’ families who remain in the states.
This flag, which flew in Kirkuk, Iraq on September 14, 2007, was presented to the staff and students at St. Edward in appreciation of their loving support for the soldiers.
Along with the retired flag, Chaplain Scott sent this plaque recognizing St. Edward for the numerous cards, care packages, gifts and well wishes the staff and students have sent to the soldiers over the past years.
The PeaceBuilders at St. Edward School wanted to show their appreciation for soldiers who risk their lives daily hoping to improve conditions in Iraq and to keep us safe. They did not send gifts and cards in the hopes that they would be rewarded. Likewise, the troops in Iraq did not expect to be showered with care packages from PeaceBuilders in Jeffersontown, KY as a reward for their hard work and sacrifice.

But good behavior always eventually results in positive consequences.

The PeaceBuilders at St. Edward and the soldiers in Iraq are to be commended for all the things they do to increase peace in their own communities and around the world.
