Riverview Elementary School - Lakeside, CA
Every year, Riverview Elementary School has a rededication to PeaceBuilders after the winter or spring break. During rededication week, they revisit the PeaceBuilders Principles and engage in fun activities that bring the Principles to life and make them meaningful. When that middle of the year slump hits, the wise people at Riverview fight back by making PeaceBuilders fun!

This year the rededication was even more exciting and extravagant than usual. With the help of KaBOOM! (an organization that facilitates the building of play spaces to challenge a child's imagination and body) and CaliforniaVolunteers, the community of Lakeside helped Riverview Elementary create beautiful new play area at the school.

At Riverview, they know that building peace is just as important on the playground as it is in the classroom, and they want their play area to be a safe, peaceful, happy place for children to learn through play.

First the old playground was dismantled. Then, slowly, the construction began.
It all began with a lot of dirt...

...and a lot of hard work.

But with all the wise people helping others, it didn't take long before the playground took shape.

And it all happened in one short day.

They even created an outdoor classroom so that children could enjoy the almost-always-perfect Southern California weather.

The community of Lakeside takes PeaceBuilding seriously. The schools support each other by attending events and helping each other out. Community members support the schools and the PeaceBuilders program. And because everyone is working to build peace, the children of Lakeside are able to see positive role-modeling not just at the school, but all around their lovely community.
