| Charlton Street School - Southbridge, MA |
One powerful way to engage young people in PeaceBuilding is to allow them to convey their understanding of the PeaceBuilders Principles in fun, creative ways. Skits, plays, poems, songs, and dance are some of the many ways children and teens enjoy expressing themselves.
The staff at Charlton Street School, a PeaceBuilders Showcase site, understands this and uses theater and other artistic avenues to make PeaceBuilding enjoyable and meaningful to children.
Recently, Mrs. Cropley’s second grade class put on a play for visitors to their school. They performed a PeaceBuilders version of “The Little Red Hen” in which the hen exemplifies a peaceful spirit, even when others do not. After the other farm animals refuse to help her plant the wheat, harvest it, turn it into flour, and bake bread, she invites them to share the bread with her because she is a PeaceBuilder. |
