Victoria Elementary - San Bernardino, CA
The PeaceBuilders program helps create an environment in which young people feel welcome and safe no matter their ethnicity, cultural background or religious affiliation. Practicing the PeaceBuilders Principles establishes a culture of inclusion.

At Victoria Elementary, PeaceBuilders is the culture, so no matter what language a child speaks, what food she brings in her lunchbox, or what clothes he wears to school each day, everyone is part of the family. Everyone is treated with respect.

As conscientious PeaceBuilders, the staff and students at Victoria recite the PeaceBuilders Pledge everyday. An enormous banner hanging in the cafeteria, where they also hold their monthly PeaceBuilders awards ceremony, bears the Pledge.
The words in the PeaceBuilders Pledge serve as a daily reminder that our actions build peace by showing respect and kindness to others and to ourselves. The staff and students at Victoria take the words to heart and practice the Principles with consistent enthusiasm.
After reciting the PeaceBuilders Pledge, staff and students sing the Victoria School Song promising to learn with all their might, to build peace and to stay healthy and drug free.
The cafeteria at Victoria is a happy place where students congregate to eat their lunches, to talk to friends and classmates and to practice the important PeaceBuilding skill of getting along with others and respecting people’s differences.

Hanging on the cafeteria walls are numerous national flags that demonstrate some of the 18 different languages spoken and cultures represented at Victoria Elementary.
The population of Victoria Elementary is one big happy PeaceBuilders family because they have learned to value and appreciate each other’s differences and to continually seek similarities and connections.

Principal Angela Neuhaus and the staff at Victoria are positive PeaceBuilders role models for their students and families. They have managed to create a strong PeaceBuilding culture at their school by being PeaceBuilders all day—in the classrooms, in the office, in the cafeteria, on the playground, and in the community. They don’t just teach occasional PeaceBuilders lessons—they talk the talk and walk the walk everyday. That’s what makes this site so successful and so serene. We are proud to share the peaceful environment this amazing school has created.
