Yucca Loma Elementary - Apple Valley, CA
The students and staff at Yucca Loma Elementary have been PeaceBuilders for a long time. Building peace has become a large part of the culture at this site and has helped them to meet the many challenges of a changing community and staff.

As an established PeaceBuilders site, they know the importance of praise. Each room has a PeaceBoard on which they display PraiseNotes.
Teachers and staff write them, children write them—everyone gives and receives praise!
The wise staff at Yucca Loma also knows that visual cues related to peace are important to creating a safe and calm environment. Children and adults are reminded to be PeaceBuilders at all times through artwork and academic work focused on PeaceBuilders themes and displayed around the campus.
The folks at Yucca Loma are encouraged to be peaceful leaders by this fabulous mural, which decorates the lunch area. The “Peace Leader Promise” states that they will “walk in the path of peace.”
Reminders and encouragement to practice the Principles of PeaceBuilders should come from the things we see, like people modeling the behavior; and from the things we hear, like praise and kind words; and from the way we make each other feel.

We praise the staff and students at Yucca Loma for making PeaceBuilders a strong focus at their school and for providing an example for other schools to follow.
