Inyokern Elementary - Inyokern, CA
Inyokern Elementary is not only a proud PeaceBuilders school, they are a very successful one! PeaceBuilders has been the way of life here for over ten years.

There is abundant evidence that this is a PeaceBuilders school to everyone who visits, works, or learns at Inyokern Elementary. Adults and young people are prompted to build peace through visual cues like murals, display boards and banners that help them remember who they are and what's expected of them.

This scenic mural on an exterior wall depicts the entire PeaceBuilders Pledge-an important reminder of site-wide expectations.

Individual young PeaceBuilders worked together to create a stunning work of art and a powerful statement in this display board.

A prodigious banner hangs over the stage in the cafeteria auditorium as a reminder of the staff's and student's shared identity and common purpose.

The visual reminders are important, but so is praise and recognition for a job well done; so the wise staff at Inyokern holds monthly PeaceBuilders assemblies.

Students who demonstrate PeaceBuilding skills are celebrated and encouraged each month.

Along with the visual reminders children see all over their school and the recognition they get at assemblies, they are also learning to be PeaceBuilders in the classrooms...

Inyokern teachers have incorporated PeaceBuilders Principles into their daily lesson plans.

And young people are reminded to be PeaceBuilders in the library...

This impressive quilt bears a proclamation that explains this outstanding site's success. They understand the power of community and cooperation.

Even before and after arriving at school, student and staff are consistent in their peaceful ways...

Bus drivers and students remember to follow the PeaceBuilders Principles going to and from school everyday.

The best explanation of why PeaceBuilders permeates a culture is that the PeaceBuilders Principles are first modeled by adults and then practiced by youth and adults alike. Another is that PeaceBuilding happens not only in classrooms but everywhere people congregate: in the library, on the playground, in the cafeteria, and on the bus. PeaceBuilders is so much more than a program or a series of lessons. It is an identity people share. As it is at Inyokern, it is a way of life.

The folks at Inyokern Elementary School share the PeaceBuilders identity and they represent beautifully our common culture. We are so proud of their accomplishments and their commitment.
